7 mos and a Football Game

Presley turns 7 months old today! Gosh, really? Where does the time go? I looked back at some of our videos, like the one of her pulling her hair, of her first babbles, trying to roll over and think I remember thinking she was so big THEN! I can honestly say being a mom is hard but overwhelmingly rewarding! It is a relationship that for now is unconditional. I never had to win over my daughter, I never had to make her love me. Ok, well, being the only source of her food helps, but I try not to think of that!!!

Presley can...
Crawl!
Is getting her first tooth
Stands up on most everything
Eats puffs, cherrios, animal crackers and lots of veggies and fruit
Takes 2-3 naps a day
Sleeps 10-10 1/2 hrs at night
Loves blocks, ribbons, rattles, exersaucer, magazines, daddy's shoes,and...ummm...dog toys
LOVES her puppies and is so glad she has two friends all day to play with!
Has lots of little friends between her "New Mom's Playgroup", Navy Dive families (also here for grad school), Sandra and Lena(this little girl is Presley's world!! She is 3) and her Church and Bible Talk friends.
Can clap and wave bye, bye
Loves to bounce
Her best adult friend would have to be her Uncle Dusty. She lights up when he is here!

Dallas and I still look at her and think "This can't be. Is she really ours?" I love it! For as long as she is mine to care for I will cherish her and that time. When it comes time for her to leave my house and make her own way I will gladly move to the sidelines and see if those times I cherished her helped her to be the incredible person I already know she is!!

Yesterday we went to Presley's first college football game. It was also my first Gator football game. We had a great time!!! It was the Gators vs Citadel Bulldogs. So, Dusty came in from Jacksonville to go to the game. He scored us some AWESOME seats AND a great parking place for tailgating. Most of the people around us, AGAIN, hardly watched the game as much as they watched Presley. WEll, maybe that is because it wasn't much of a game!! Presley took a VERY long nap in the middle of the game and I fed her twice. I know, I am the master breastfeeder!!! HeeHee. Most of the people probably thought I was just keeping her warm with the Citadel sweatshirt. Click here if you want to see all the pictures!

Presley loves her puppies...

Ben and Abby are our first babies. We got them a year after we got married. Dallas has always called them "Cindy's dogs" but now they have a new owner. "Presley's Dogs" are now the center of my little girls world. When she wakes up in the morning the first things she looks for is Ben and Abby. When she is crying, no one soothes her like Ben and Abby!! Now that she is full on crawling she chases Ben and Abby. This is a video of exactly why having small dogs in the house and a bouncing, giggling baby can be such a joy!!
(Excuse how dark it is. We don't have great lighting in the room)

A week in DC

Well, we are back from our latest adventures! We just spent the last week in Washington DC with my mom and dad (Mae and Papa)!! And, for those curious, yes it was GREAT to be in DC during the elections. I even had the opportunity to go to the last Obama rally in Manassas on the 3rd but didn't go because it was WAY late! However, it was neat to kinda be in the hustle and bustle of DC during the elections. I can't wait to tell Presley how we were in the nations capital during such a historical event!

Let me tell you how beautiful it is in the DC area during the fall! I felt like I was back home in the Ozarks with all the gorgeous colors and wonderful weather! My mom and dad's house sits back in the woods and when I got there it was surrounded by full vibrant trees. By the time I left you could see houses that you couldn't 4 days earlier!! The ground looked like it had snowed yellow, orange and red! It was wonderful!

Presley loved spending time with her Mae and Papa!! Papa and Presley spent a lot of time cuddling on the couch, watching tv and playing peek-a-boo with Papa's hat!!

Mae has some of the greatest toys. Even though I brought lots of Presley's toys she was totally NOT interested. When my mom told me not to worry about toys I didn't listen because I was sure she didn't have any. WRONG! She had measuring cups, wooden spoons, Tupperware, and even mardi gras beads. Mae and Presley had the most fun with all these toys!! Its no wonder Mae's grandbabies love her so much. She sees past the need for commercial toys and lets them just be!!
Presley also played dressup with my mom's baby shoes. Yes, you heard right. Presley put on my mom's baby shoes from 55 years ago! Ok, so she had a little help. Just with the laces, though!!

Going anywhere in the DC area takes a long time. Traffic there is nuts! So, we spent a lot of time in the car and Presley was a champ. In this picture she seems to even be saying, "Ok, got my phone and the keys. Where are we off to next?!"

We even had the opportunity to go and visit some friends we knew in La Maddalena while we were there. Louise, Keiran, and Sahara Mathis are dear friends of Dallas and mine. It was so wonderful to get to introduce Presley to their family! The kiddos really enjoyed playing with Presley.

Check this video out of Sahara and Keiran entertaining Presley or Presley entertaining them. You decide.

We get to go back to visit Mae and Papa in December. We are looking forward to it! We will get to see Kaci, Katelynn and Dusty too! We always have so much fun when we go to visit my parents and this time will be no different! Dallas and I very well may end up in the DC area after his dive training. So, I am glad I enjoyed the area as much as I did. I can't wait till next month to show him around! To see all our pictures go here!!

What is a MILITARY Wife?

They may look different and each is wonderfully unique, but this what they have in common. They have THIS IN COMMON!
Lots of moving--- Moving.
Moving.
Moving far from home.
Moving two cars, three kids and one dog----all riding with HER of course.
Moving sofas to basements because they won't go in THIS house.
Moving curtains that won't fit.
Moving jobs and certifications and professional development hours.
Moving away from friends, moving toward new friends.
Moving her most important luggage; her trunkful of memories.
Often waiting-
Waiting, waiting, waiting for housing;
waiting for orders; waiting for deployment; waiting for reunion;
waiting for phones calls;
Waiting for the new curtains to arrive;
waiting for him to come home for dinner----AGAIN!
They call her 'military dependent', but she knows better.
She can balance a checkbook.
Handle the yard work.
Fix a noisy toilet.
She is intimately familiar with drywall, anchors, and toggle bolts.
She can file the taxes, sell a house, buy a car, or set up a move, -- all with ONE Power of Attorney.
She welcomes neighbors that don't welcome her.
Reinvents her career with every PCS; locates a house in the desert, the arctic, or the deep south and learns to call them all 'home'.
She MAKES them all home.
She is fiercely IN-dependent.
Military Wives are somewhat hasty.
They leap into decorating, leadership, volunteering, career alternatives, churches and friendships.
They don't have 15 years to get to know people.
Their roots are short but flexible.
They plant annuals for themselves and Perennials for those who come after them.
Military Wives quickly learn to value each other.
They connect over coffee, rely on the spouse-network and accept offers of friendship and favors and record addresses in pencil.
Military Wives have a common bond.
The Military Wife has a husband unlike other husbands his commitment is unique.
He doesn't have a job, he has a 'mission' he can't just decide to quit he's on-call for his country 24/7 but for you, he'sthe most unreliable guy in town! His language is foreign:
TDY
PCS
OPR
ACC
BDU
And so, a Military Wife is a translator for her family and his.She is the long-distance link to keep them informed, the glue that holds them together.
Military Wife has her moments----
She wants to wring his neck, dye his uniform pink, and refuse to move to Siberia.
But she pulls herself together.
Give her a few days, a travel brochure, a long hot bath, a pledge to the flag, and a wedding picture.
And she goes.
She packs.
She moves.
She follows.
Why?
What for?
How come?
You may think it is because she has lost her mind. But actually it is because she has lost her heart.
It was stolen from her by a man...Who puts duty first.
Who longs to deploy.
Who salutes the flag.
And whose boots in the doorway remind her that as long as he is her Military husband,
She will remain his Military wife.
